Carly Greenway - Winner of The Spot Brief.
A short biography.

Having completed my first degree at the University of Bath I am returning to begin the M.Arch course in January. Currently on placement at Brown Matthews Architects Ltd in Warwick I am working a wide variety of projects including educational, residential, historic buildings and ecclesiastical work.

One of my personal interests that I intend to pursue in my thesis project and dissertation are the ways in which architecture has a psychological impact on people. How environments can be created through use of form, light and materials to envoke certain feelings and response.

Inspiration and key points for the design
What is a shed?

For many people a shed is primarily somewhere to store garden paraphenalia, but that is not all, it can also act as a retreat from reality - a secret hideaway.

Where is a shed?

Often at the end of the garden, somewhere overgrown, un-cared for.

Inspired by the typical function and location, the material choice for the shed didn't need to be too glamourous. The re-use of tyres from landfill seemed a suitable, sustainable approach. The form of the tyre provides for both of the functions - creating storage shelves and cubby holes, bench seating and views out.

The concept, a simple idea is both personally adaptable by the user and transposable from site to site - creating a solution for whatever and wherever the shed is.
